Yeah what a tease... I was sure we'd find it after locating the fail fin, but with limited time and difficult terrain, just wasn't to be.

I like the GoPro mount to be built into the nose... it's also quite a bit bigger (800mm vs 1200mm), so a bit of a different beast.

So hard to guess. The area was quite steep and dense, with loose branches and ferns so it would be all luck to stumble across it.

Hi, I didn't use ground stations - just crosshair antennas on goggles on 5.8g, so can't really make recommendations sorry. How much range are you getting now? You could consider switching to a 1.2/1.3ghz setup for longer range on analogue, or the Walksnail system on digital.

I don't have this FC sorry. The manual should show you what channels are for modes etc?

Hopefully your finding is correct, that it switches to RTH on detecting failsafe. I didn't do any further testing on this matter.

​@@ZaksterBlue I was too scared to try a failsafe, not so much for the fear of losing the plane but more because I really don't want to injure someone or destroy anyone's property. Any ideas how to test this safely? Besides that, the simple flight controller works perfectly, I especially love the auto launch option.

Guess you could test it on the ground to see if the osd shows rth mode with the Radio switched off?

@@ZaksterBlue Yep. Nailed it. Those two big outcrops just down from the main peak are like 4 - 5 stories high. You don't realise how big they are until your up next to them.

@@JamesDowningFPV you do get two indicators of signal loss. There is a megabit counter or bar (depending which system) in the corner you can keep an eye on, as well as visual degradation creeping in with the edges becoming blocky as it prioritises the centre. Recovery depends on the system and settings but I find it acceptable on my v1 on 25mbit setting, it's pretty quick once back in LOS. Not so quick on 50mbit HQ setting so I don't use it. As for coverage, this is hard to describe. Zipping a quad through trees within 300-500m it absolutely smashes analogue. You're comparing a mostly unaffected 25-50mbit HD feed with leaves and thin branches clearly visible with a fuzzy low def lack of confidence. It allows you to push further and faster. But because you are further, when it does drop, it can be quick. Same with flying further out, the image hangs on and stays clear (enough) further and lower than with analogue goggles so you push the limits more and fly where analogue would have become too fuzzy. The mbit will be pretty low on the fringe to give you warning that it could drop at any second if you fly behind/below something. Unsure how Walksnail would be in these fringe situations compared to DJI. Also unsure how the newer DJI would be compared to my v1.

@@ZaksterBlue Thanks so much for your thoughts on this. I guess its hard to really judge without going all in and testing it. I've thought it could make sense to create a redundant system that has both 5.8 HD and 1.3 analog video setup. It could essentially be like a diversity setup, but it would prioritize the HD feed until it goes black, then it would automatically switch to 1.3 analog until the HD feed returns. It would be jarring when it switched, but it could at least provide some visual for when the HD feed drops. It doesn't seem like it would be impossible to set that up.

@@JamesDowningFPV Digital and analogue signals don't play well together so we have to sit at a fair distance from each other if flying mixed systems. Not sure how that would go on one user and aircraft! Walksnail have just released a higher power vtx, 2w equivalent I think. I guess that would help in fringe situations as well.

@@gagagugu4747 hi, it's possible the different Vista firmware changed the osd data. You could test by flashing the older Vista firmware to see if it works.

@@glenharto9699hi Glen, surprisingly not too much damage. Some claw marks, missing rear hatch and one tail fin. I had a spare kit so all fixed.

No, amazingly it just flopped on its back in the grass without much damage other than a missing tail fin and rear hatch.
